Faraway Farms is in the early stages of building a nonprofit rescue and boarding sanctuary specializing in large breed dogs who need space to thrive. Located on a hundred acres in Mendocino County, we are building the infrastructure needed to responsibly care for future rescues. In the meantime, we offer intimate in home boarding, allowing us to grow slowly while beginning to fund the sanctuary.
MEET THE TEAM
Farley
Puts the far in Faraway. He’s how it all started. His mom got him while living in the city and knew right away he’d be the reason she’d finally follow her dream of moving to Mendocino—though she never imagined they’d end up on a hundred acres of land. Now he runs freely across his domain, and it’s said bear sightings have disappeared since his presence on the mountain. When he’s not on patrol, he’s the kind of guy who likes to stop and smell the roses—or roll in the dirt, maybe even snag a stick of butter off the counter.
Waylon
He’s the way to Farley’s far—and thus Faraway Farms was born. When these two pups first toured the land, they were the ones who decided it was home. Waylon is an athlete, always first to ball, stick, or anything else you throw on land or water. At the same time, he’ll shove his head into your lap at any chance he gets.
Huxley
Half Pyrenees, half Lab—and if you didn’t know better, you’d think she’s part Farley, part Waylon. Born with all-knowing eyes, a powerful sniffer, and a master of keep-away since she was just a pup, she fearlessly matches her big brothers in every rumble and tumble. At the same time, she’s an instant mama to little kittens, new chicks, and any surely to any rescue animals that find their way to Faraway Farms.
Puka
Before we started rescuing, we were fostering—and our very first foster was a fail. She was quickly snatched up by Auntie T, and while she’s thriving in the big city, she still loves to come vacation with her pack at Faraway Farms.
Sawyer
He may have flunked out of Reactive Rover twice, but every time he comes to Faraway Farms, he shines. Walking proof that old dogs can learn new tricks!
The Cats
We were trusted with the cutest junkyard kittens anyone has ever seen. Naturally, we kept every single one. You’ve never met a friendlier crew—they even hike with us!
The Chicks
You can’t call it a farm without chickens. Meet the newest members of our crew. As of March 2026, it’s hard to tell whether these 13 little rascals are eating, pooping, or growing faster!
